It has been a whirlwind few days! For those of you who haven't seen it yet, I wrote a Facebook post on a situation that occurred at Jo & Earl's Wedding on Sunday. Here's the original post:
Unexpectedly, within a few hours hundreds of people were commenting, liking and sharing the story. Within a few more hours thousands of people were involved. At this moment almost a million people have read the story.
Then I got a call from Marc Venema at CTV News asking to feature the story. From his story the reach drastically exploded. I began getting calls from news sources all over the world wanting to share this story of positivity and love with their readers & viewers. Here are a few of my favourites:
You can check out the stories here: CTV News, CNN, CBS Inside Edition, BuzzFeed, Global News, The Record, Huffington Post, ABC News, YahooThe story has given me such a sense of gratitude; to Ibrahim Halil Dudu the man who only just arrived and is already contributing to his new community, to the media for sharing this positive story, to the Hobson family who is sponsoring the Dudu's and giving so much of themselves to make the world a better place, to the Canadian government for opening our doors and realizing that borders can't hold us back from taking care of each other. And of course thank you to Jo & Earl for asking me to be part of your perfect day - and for being the calmest and coolest couple ever, even in a crisis. The Hobsons have recently told me that the Dudu family have some dental and medical concerns after some years without proper medical care, and are looking to anyone who can help support them financially. The process of sponsoring a Syrian family is extremely strenuous, and one of the huge tasks put to host families is to have a large sum of money ready to find housing, childcare etc. The Hobsons renovated their home to include a basement apartment and while they say things are tight, they're managing and will be happy when the Dudu's are independent and fully self-sufficient. In order to get there they need our support - just like they jumped in to help the Dudus we need to jump in and help our neighbours. If you're interested in donating or organizing a fundraiser please visit the GoFundMe page we have set up for Privately Sponsored Syrian Refugees and also the GoFundMe page specifically for the Dudu family's medical costs.Much Love,Lindsay
